Since this year began, over 10,000 asylum applications have been filed in Germany. It is an increase of 78 per cent over 2022.

Remix reports that the massive arrivals have succeeded in a spread of anti-immigration sentiment across Germany.

A French news station, Europe 1’s film crew visited the city of Kehl where about 1,200 asylum seekers are living. There, locals are concerned about more migrants arriving in the city. The city’s social services and reception centers have already been strained.

Meanwhile, Germany is facing a real estate crisis.

According to Irina, who helps refugees settle in the city, “a two-room apartment now costs 900 euros per month, even the locals have trouble finding housing.” However, in order to ease the effects of the housing shortage, the Mayor of Kehl has launched the construction of 50 housing units for refugees.

Although the German government has announced its intention to curb the influx of migrants, critics are saying such promises have been made in the past. Since the migrant flow has not been nipped in the bud, all 16 German states are demanding that crisis measures be used to stem the flow of migrants.

Numerous polls have indicated that a majority of Germans are stating their country must stop migrant intake.
