BOEHLY BUYS CHELSEA – Adéwálé Ṣóbọ̀wálé
Todd Boehly is the new owner of the famous English football club, Chelsea FC!
Boehly is an American businessman, investor, and philanthropist.
He has investments various companies.
Boehly’s grandparents were from Germany. He graduated from Landon School, Maryland in 1971.
While in school, he was into wrestling. He represented the school at the I.A.C. championships. They won in both 1990 and 1991.
The school named their facilities the Boehly Family Wrestling Room in his honor.
He went on to the College of William and Mary. He graduated with a B.B.A. in Finance in 1996. He was also at the London School of Economics. While there, he started working at Citibank and then at CS First Boston.
Boehly owns 20% shares in
Los Angeles Dodgers. He’s also a part owner of Los Angeles Sparks. He is an owner of fantasy sports company Draftkings and esports organization Cloud9.
He had had his eyes on Chelsea since 1999 when he attempted to buy the club for $3. But Roman Abramovich refused to sell the club.
However, in March 2022, with Mark Walter, Hansjorg Wyss and Clearlake Capital, he launched a bid to buy the club from Abramovich.
Abramovich had put the club up for sale due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Chelsea confirmed the acceptance of the bid on May 6, 2022.
The bid was approved by all parties involved.
