Democrats against Biden!
Many Democratic legislators have told President Biden to set aside the impediments on would–be asylees at the country’s southern border.
AlJazeera reports that they have declared the recently expanded expulsion policy as a violation of national and international law.
Nearly 80 legislators reportedly signed an open letter to Biden urging him “to restore and protect the rights of asylum seekers and refugees”.
Defending its policies, the Biden administration has said the number of encounters with Cuban, Haitian, Venezuelan and Nicaraguan migrants on the border have decreased since the parole programme was launched.
Rights advocates have been consistent in criticizing the government’s strategies at the border. They are saying migrants who are fleeing dangerous situations should not be made to face restrictions which might force them to take even more dangerous journeys in search of safety.
