‘IS GAJU’ by Adewale Sobowale

So, the big association of writers in Nigeria is currently accepting entries for literary contests.

But, why are we like this? Abi won fi se wa ni?

In the first instance, for each entry to be accepted, a princely sum of three thousand Naira must accompany it.

Second, it seems the body is yet to be IT savvy since it has stated that those who are sending entries should do so by mail. Our postal system is apparently the best in the globe.

I’m sure the body is not aware that so many brilliant writers have financial challenges.

What’s more, the body is giving room for multiple entries. That in itself shows the body is being clever by half.

Meanwhile, members of the association have not been given any consideration in terms of reduction in entry fees.

To the best of my knowledge, people don’t respect those kind of contests. In fact, some people see them as lotteries.

Anyway, I’m thinking of sponsoring an ijala ere ode contest. Participants won’t have to pay anything. Please watch this space!
