KO HA TAN BI? THE END? – Adewale Sobowale

I’ve always stated in some of my scribblings that even if I’m the only person who sees some point in what I’ve written, it doesn’t matter. Indeed, what actually matters to me is the freedom I have to express myself.

That intrinsic freedom may, however, be abridged in Nigeria.

Ka l’akata lo na, ka to pada s’odo adie. That is, let’s chase away the jackal before we start blaming the hen.

As ordinary Nigerians can see, our so-called leaders have nothing to offer us in spite of their looting spree. So many countries are rolling out palliatives to ease the stay at home order caused by COVID 19.

But our leaders have, more or less, emptied the treasuries. The sad part is that they hardly have anything to show for it.

But then, they couldn’t have succeeded without the cooperation, active or passive, of us all.

Those who are on their side are even much more successful than those of us who have decided to keep mute. Yes, we have so decided because we don’t want trouble.

But then, there’s a song about some villagers who are said to hate thuggery. However, the village chief is selling drugs while his wife is selling dry gin. Yet, there’s no one speak against it.

Nigeria has had its fair share of human rights activists. But did we listen to them?

Nda o!

On the contrary, when they are subjected to indignities by the ruling elite, we tend to look the other way. We look at it as ‘their own’ battles.

If we survive this, and I know we shall, let’s start grooming our own representatives who, of course, understand our situation.

I will also suggest, not instruct, that we do away with zoning or federal character. It prevents us from having the best of the best serving the motherland or is it fatherland?

As far as I’m concerned, where we’re going is not too far if we stop having diversions. To run a government is about the easiest of tasks if we have the square pegs in the square holes.

But for now, we’re eating the fruits of our laggardness!
