Migrants’ corpses returned to Afghanistan!

The corpses of 18 Afghan corpses who died while being struggled into Bulgaria have been returned to their country.

The VOA reports that Bulgarian authorities discovered the bodies in the back of a truck on a highway near Sofia I’m February. They all died of suffocation.

The authorities detained seven people in connection with the deaths. The case has been described as the deadliest involving migrants.

The director of Bulgaria’s National Investigation said the migrants were “pressed against each other like in a tin can.” It caused their slow and painful deaths.

While disclosing that his government paid for the repatriation of the bodies, the ministry’s deputy spokesman in Kabul, Zia Ahmad Takal blamed Bulgaria’s legal process for the delayed return and the “cruel banking restrictions” imposed on Afghanistan. He also said the bodies were handed back to the families and asked Afghans not to risk their lives on illegal smuggling routes.
