Tunisian migrants face roadblock!

The new visa restrictions in Serbia is constituting a great problem for migrants from Tunisia.
ALMONITOR reports that the remote desert town of Tataouine which was once a melting pot for migrants and the associated businesses is now a shadow of itself.
The town used to be a way of getting to Europe. However, Serbia had, on November 10, 2022 ended visa–free entry for Tunisians and Burundians.
Serbia used to be popular for smuggling of migrants. But with the European Union’s accusation and pressure, Serbia had to find a way of solving the problem.
When the EU threatened to revoke visa privileges, the die was cast.
The reversal of Serbia’s visa policy resulted on a bad turnaround for the transit route. The number of Tunisians taking the route drastically went down.
Even smugglers reacted to the move. They started promising their clients new routes.
