UK Offers Plan to France

By Adewale Sobowale,

The British Prime Minister, Mr Boris Johnson, has reportedly offered France a five-step plan in order to prevent irregular migration.

According to him, he wrote President Emmanuel Macron ‘offering to move further and faster to prevent Channel crossings’.

He said he took the step to avoid more appalling tragedies. He was apparently referring to an incident in which 31 migrants died as a result of making a dangerous crossing from France to the UK. The boat in which they were making the crossing capsized.

The British PM wants the steps to be taken ‘as soon as possible’. The steps include joint patrols; deploying advanced technology, like sensors and radar; reciprocal maritime patrols; deepening the work of their Joint Intelligence Cell, with better real-time intelligence-sharing; immediate work on a bilateral returns agreement with France, alongside talks to establish UK-EU returns agreement with France to take back migrants who cross the Channel through the dangerous route.
