UNITED NATIONS! – Adewale Sobowale

They come in their grosses and hundreds. The now, famous, Roxam Road is their way after getting down at Plattsburgh.

There’s not a single one of them who doesn’t have some load. The common one is the duffel bag.

Most of them are putting on one jeans material or the other. You know jeans can withstand the cold, it’s good for all seasons and it doesn’t matter whether it’s ironed or not.

When they get to the illegal border, the policemen accost them. They’re informed that the legal border is just a few minutes walk away and that if they should cross illegally they would be arrested.

None of them thinks twice before agreeing to be arrested. The police do their duty in arresting them.

One thing that strikes them is the fact that the policemen and women are extra polite while doing their job!

Their loads are taken away from them for searches. They’re asked how much money is in their possession.

They’re then frisked. Some of them are discovered to have conveniently forgotten some money in various hidden places!

They’re then interrogated by the police. Later, they write statements about their illegally entering the country.

The respect given to them is rather strange to most of them who happen to be Nigerians!
