By Adewale Sobowale,

I understand two of the alleged killers of Deborah Samuel, the student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto in Nigeria were arraigned in a local court.

Deborah had been beaten, stoned, murdered and her remains got burnt by some terrorists for an alleged blasphemous offence against Islam.

The alleged killers were charged with criminal conspiracy and inciting public disturbance.

34 lawyers, including a professor, defended the accused. There’s a tendency that more lawyers will join the defense team.

Most of the northern elite, in their utterances, actually support the dastardly act.

But then, if someone had actually been killed, if someone’s freedom of belief had been tampered with and if someone’s freedom of speech had been restrained, I tend to think those charges are very minor.

The lawyers may, in any case, find loopholes in the law and the accused persons may end up being set free.

Of course, that’s to be expected because they killed for their own god!

I’m not in any way prejudiced. The Holy Koran which they claim to be following didn’t say they should kill!!

In any case, Nigeria is supposed to be practising common law.

Moreover, I’ve since learned that Shariah is not to be used to judge non–Muslims. Even for Muslims, they must be arraigned before a court.

Deborah was just wasted by terrorists parading themselves as Muslims!
